“fish international” now 100 per cent ‘Bremen’

“Bringing together international producers and German markets“

“I am happy to be able to give fish international into competent hands.” Peter Koch-Bodes, the Managing Director of the  “progenitor” of fish international, fair organizers Messe und Ausstellungsgesellschaft Hansa GmbH (MGH), sold his shares to Messe Bremen to take effect on October 8th. “There has been good, and close, co-operation with Messe Bremen for many years – Messe Bremen has exhibition know-how, and is familiar with the fair’s standing. Up to now, it has held a 49 per cent share in our partnership.” Peter Koch-Bodes, who is relinquishing his 51 per cent for age reasons, is not, however, thinking about stopping – he’s just moving out of the front row. “I will in future be focusing more on international markets and will continue to use my contacts for fish international.” And these are invaluable for a trade fair like this: As a fish retailer, Peter Koch Bodes does not only know a lot about his business but is also the Chairman of the Trade Association ‘Der Fischfachhandel” in the German Retail Association.

Messe Bremen benefits, too: “We are happy to say that, with the purchase of MGH, we were able to ensure that Bremen will remain the venue for the international trade fair fish international”, said Hans Peter Schneider, the Managing Director of the Exhibition Department of Hanseatische Veranstaltungs-GmbH. Last week, the Budget and Finance Committee of Bremen gave its consent to the purchase of MGH. MGH is not only the organizer of fish international – it also develops international conferences for the fish and seafood industry and manages and co-ordinates other events for the Bremen exhibition centre.

Hans Peter Schneider sees good grounds for the purchase of MGH: “In buying MGH we are ensuring that this event will remain in Bremen. Bremen has a major interest in holding an international fair that attracts over 400 international exhibitors and about 11,000 visitors.” fish international did not only promote Bremen’s image as a centre of competence for the fish and seafood industry but, due to its size, also had regional economic effects. And these will grow, too, for the exhibition wants to push more strongly into the international market in the future. “South America and Asia want to strengthen their positions within the German fish market”, says Koch-Bodes. And this is a chance for fish international: “We see our role as that of intermediary – we can create contacts at our fair and thus strengthen trade between the German market and international producers”, says Hans Peter Schneider. The fair organizers also see development potential in the logistics segment.

fish international is a leading international trade fair that presents innovations and well-established products and services from the fish and seafood industry every two years. Make a note now of the dates of the tenth fish international: 12th – 14th February, 2006.
